What’s surveying? The ducks’ dining survey!

Data refers to pieces of information, facts, or statistics that can be collected, analyzed, and used for various purposes. Data can take many forms, such as numbers, text, images, or sounds. For example, a list of your friends’ favorite colors, the score you got on a test, or the temperature outside are all examples of data.

Surveying for data collection is like asking a lot of people questions to find out what they think or how they feel about something. Imagine you want to know what everyone’s favorite ice cream flavor is, so you make a simple list of questions and ask your friends, family, or classmates to answer.

Why Do We Need Surveys?

  1. Get Real Opinions: Surveys help us hear what people really think, just like asking friends what games they like to play.
  2. Learn from Many People: By asking a lot of people, we can learn about many different ideas, just like finding out if more people like chocolate or vanilla ice cream.
  3. Make Smart Choices: When businesses or schools want to make decisions, they can use survey answers to understand what people want or need.
  4. Easy and Quick: Surveys are a simple way to ask questions and get answers fast, kind of like a fun quiz that tells us what everyone thinks.

In short, surveying helps us learn from others so we can make better choices together!
