1. Cartoons Lied to You: The Mobile Home is Permanent

Forget what you saw on TV—turtles cannot simply slip out of their shells for a quick shower.

• It’s literally their spine: The shell is made of over 50 bones fused together, including their rib cage and spine.
• Grow-with-me sizing: The shell grows right along with them, meaning they never need to upgrade to a larger size.
• No hiding for sea turtles: While some land turtles can tuck their heads in like shy introverts, sea turtles traded this feature for aerodynamics. They can’t retract their heads or flippers, but those paddle-shaped limbs make them incredibly graceful, speedy swimmers!

2. The Original Ocean Vegans

Green sea turtles are unique because they are primarily herbivores, happily munching on a salad of seagrasses and algae.
